The International Crisis and Emergency Conference comes fourth on the list of goals and objectives that the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority aims to achieve. The goal is to raise awareness, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency responsiveness in the United Arab Emirates.
Local authorities and organizations, no matter how far they have progressed in the process of improving their individual skills and knowledge and no matter how far they have gone in their respective capacity building, need to benefit from other organizations’ experiences, discoveries and knowledge.
For this reason, the Authority has put the relationship with “the other” on top of its priority list and this is reflected in the saying: “We are not alone in this world”….
Within the same framework and under the directive of our wise leadership, the Authority has accorded particular importance to hosting international conferences to discuss crisis and emergency management in the United Arab Emirates. Aiming at benefiting from international expertise and subject matter experts in the areas of crisis and emergency management and handling. This reflects in the Authority’s quest to invite the largest number of subject matter experts from all over the world.
These conferences aim at improving the status of crisis and emergency management and handling in the UAE in particular and the Gulf region and Middle East in general. The main reason for holding them remains the ample opportunity to allow the participants to thoroughly understand other people’s experiences particularly in the areas of coordinating the process of crisis management on the one hand and increasing knowledge and raising awareness in the UAE and the region and the need for a unified and coordinated understanding of crisis, emergency and disaster management on the other. It also allows national and local bodies to benefit from international experiences while at the same time, giving them the opportunity to present their ideas and discuss them with international subject matter experts.
These conferences discuss a bundle of important strategic topics that tackle diverse topics such as: preparedness, leadership and control in times of crisis, ecological and industrial security, confronting terrorism, electronic and technological security, the role of media and communication in crisis management as well as development, construction, health and medical treatment projects. They also allow those officials who participate in it, whether from the UAE or other countries in the region, the opportunity to get exposed to innovative and practical ideas in the areas of coordinating efforts and shared roles locally, nationally and regionally in dealing with crisis, emergencies and disasters.
The goals of these conferences revolve around the following:
- Creating the knowledge, awareness and preparedness for crisis, emergency and disaster management.
- Encouraging and organizing collaboration between neighbouring countries for crisis, emergency and disaster management.
- Exchanging experiences related to crisis, emergency and disaster management internationally.
- Ensuring the application of best practices in crisis and emergency management.
The Crisis and Emergency Management Conference, organized by the Authority in Abu Dhabi, aims at deepening the knowledge of the stakeholders in both the national security and crisis and emergency management sectors in the UAE and the GCC about the modern tools and applications used to deal with potential emergency scenarios.
The Conference has succeeded since it was launched in 2008, in attracting the attention regionally and internationally, by attracting big numbers of subject matter experts and strategists from different parts of the world. It was the first and only conference in the area of crisis and emergency management in the Gulf and Middle East representing a platform to exchange the point of views of internationally renowned experts and researchers in the area; through a series of seminars and workshops hoping to come up with the most adequate solutions and procedures in cases of emergencies and crisis as well as trying to minimize the possible casualties and ensure speedy recovery on every level.
